37. Writer’s Block

My dear Simmers,

Yep, they’re back. The Rivers are back after, oh, roughly eleven months? I’d like to begin with a massive apology for the huge hiatus and an explanation. I know I hadn’t been updating ridiculously regularly, but basically I got stuck between two potential university-based storylines for Lily and was dithering about like a fool trying to decide.

Then the computer meltdowns started.

My family has been through four desktop computers in the last eleven months. Every time we got a new one it would arrive faulty, and given how glitch-tastic good old Sims 3 was (still bloody loved it though <3) it was frankly impossible to play. We finally got a proper new one about two weeks before Sims 4 came out, and when I realised the one save file of the Sims 3 Rivers I had was a bit borked, I took the decision to redo them in Sims 4 and start afresh.

I really hope you can see a vague resemblance to how they all were in the Sims 3! It was surprisingly hard to get them to look anywhere near as similar as I was hoping; a combination of still getting used to the Sims 4 CAS, my Sims 3 CC skin and eyes and just, well, the obvious fact that it’s a completely different game meant I was struggling with them for ages! Just in case anyone is wondering, Freya and Lily live together, then Dylan and Louise live in another household and Robyn’s family in a third, just so they’re there if I need them.

I can’t promise uber regular updates like I used to do, real life isn’t always Sim-compatible, but writing this post (I hope my rustyness doesn’t show too much…) has been a lot of fun and I’m eager to get back in the swing of things and get updating more regularly than once a year now that I’m actually able to play the game! I feel so bad for neglecting this blog so, but I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s been reading about The Rivers while I’ve been away. This blog is still getting daily hits which I’m unbelievably grateful for given how rubbish I’ve been.

I hope you’re all enjoying Sims 4, should you have it! If you’re interested, my opinion of it is pretty high. I am missing Create A Style a lot more than I thought I would, but the gameplay is brilliant, I’m loving the emotions system, and the loading screens simply don’t bother me. In Sims 3 it would take around half a minute for a lot to become completely playable anyway and even then it would be deserted; I’m loving how populated everywhere seems to be and it only takes around 15 seconds maximum to load. Thumbs up from me!

Once again, thank you all so much for your patience. If I ever seem to vanish again then feel free to tweet me (@Sianystar88 fyi) to find out where I am and push me back into the SimWorld. I’ve missed this place!!

  1. I am so glad you’re back, Sian, I’ve missed you so much!

You? Rusty? It doesn’t even show at all! I loved this chapter and my goodness, all your Sims look great in The Sims 4! I knew who everyone was right away the second I looked at them, even the twins! I definitely understand the need to retire The Sims 3 and move on to The Sims 4, I fully support that decision 100% and I’m really excited to see what adventures Lily gets up to and if Freya’s able to come to terms with all the stuff she’s dealing with. Definitely understand Freya’s position. I graduated uni but now it seems like it was just a waste of my time and money. Novelists like us don’t exactly have an easy time getting published with or without a degree!

Seriously loved this chapter and can’t wait for more. ❀

    • Thank you so much for the speedy comment!! I’ve missed blogging about my Sims, haha πŸ™‚

Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that from you πŸ™‚ And I’m so pleased that it’s obvious who’s who – you wouldn’t believe how stressed I got over creating the little blighters!! Hoping that there’ll be more in the not too distant future, but with my record it’ll be a bonus if chapter 38 comes before the start of 2015 πŸ˜‰

  2. Holy crap! Do my eyes deceive me? Is it really a Rivers chapter? *rubs eyes* It is! Whoo!

Your sims look pretty good sims 4-ified. The only person that I wasn’t sure of who it was was Robyn… but that was because I’m on my phone, and her hair looked black… which I’m sure it’s brown. Anyway!

Oh Freya… again with the pride and reclusiveness… I guess I can understand why she dropped out of uni… I liked Leo… if not for the game switch, would the girls still be in uni..? Or would Freya have dropped out anyway..?

I really hope she opens up soon. Last time, it really destroyed some relationships… let’s hope we don’t get a repeat.

I was so shocked and so happy to see a new chapter! As excited as I am for the next one, I’m patient enough… real like has a higher rank on the importance scale, and I’m not necessarily a speed poster either… speaking of which… I always feel bad being one of those self advertising people… but I always loved having your opinion, and I can’t really remember what was the last that you read of my blog, but it’d be really cool if you could check it out, and let me know what you think! Thanks!

    Great chapter again!

    • Haha, no it’s real!! I can’t quite believe it either πŸ˜‰
Yeah Robyn’s hair is brown, think the lighting in Sims 4 can be a bit dodgy sometimes though. If not for the game switch they would still be in uni, just had to tweak it a bit with them going all Sims 4ified!

Of course I’ll check out your blog πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for reading and commenting!!

  3. So glad to see you and the Rivers are back! I missed your writing and can’t wait to see what kind of nonsense the girls will find themselves in. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much! It’s good to be back πŸ™‚ I hope I won’t disappoint! Thanks for reading and commenting Shannon πŸ™‚

  4. Haven’t been a reader on here long, but you are great! So glad you came back, I thought I was following a blog going nowhere, I nearly cried. XD

    • Haha, I can’t promise to be here on a very regular basis (although I did update today!!), but I’ll try my best! Thanks for reading and for commenting πŸ™‚ I’m so pleased you enjoy my blog!!
